Whole Foods Market is Open for Business

Amid live outdoor performances by local schools and arts groups, food vendors offering free samples, speeches by civic leaders, and a marching band, Whole Foods Market opened its first store in Detroit on June 5.

Detroit Marking Products Corporation was started in 1918 in Detroit by Joe Foerg, a tinkerer working on numbering machines. His company later grew to produce rubber stamps and anything that had to do with marking. The company has moved several times to different Detroit locations, but has never left the city.
